While it’s clear that cloud computing can transform IT, lower costs and accelerate innovation, what’s less obvious is how companies can leverage their existing IT investments while planning for a full or partial migration to the cloud.

A 13-year veteran of Microsoft, Ron Markezich is corporate vice president of the company’s U.S. Enterprise and Partner Group (EPG), which serves approximately 1,500 enterprise clients and works closely with a set of managed partners and independent software vendors. In this role, Markezich is responsible for leading enterprise sales and marketing across the United States, including nearly 1,600 employees in field and national sales, partner, marketing, operations and vertical industry teams.Markezich previously served as the corporate vice president of Microsoft Online at Microsoft Corp., where he was responsible for growing the Microsoft Online business, including business development and service delivery. Microsoft Online provides businesses with the option to have their Microsoft technology delivered as an online service. The services that are part of Microsoft Online are Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft Office SharePoint Online, Microsoft Office Communications Online, Business Online Service Delivery, Microsoft Exchange Hosted Services and Microsoft Office Live Meeting.Prior to working with Microsoft Online, Markezich held the position of chief information officer for Microsoft. In that role he was responsible for Microsoft’s global network, data centers, information security, help desk, core IT services and enterprise line-of-business applications. In addition, Markezich was responsible for running Microsoft on beta Microsoft enterprise software and signing off on those products before they were shipped.Microsoft organizations under Markezich’s leadership have received numerous awards, including the CFO Magazine Best in Finance, the Alexander Hamilton Award for Technology and Primus Luminary award.Markezich joined Microsoft in 1998. Before that, he was at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) in the Electronics and High Tech Group. Markezich is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he was an All-American cross-country runner and captain of the track and field team.
